SUNNYVALE: The Diwali Mela at Sunnyvale Hindu Temple was a big draw this year drawing more than 7000 people. Held on October 24, 25 and 26, the mela in the parking lot was set up with a long row of booths with people visiting the food, clothing, jewelry, handicrafts, health, children's educational aids, community organizations etc.

Among the more usual of the 50+ booths, some not so common included the San Francisco Police Department booth and the Second Harvest Food Bank. Raj Bhanot of the Sunnyvale Temple thought that this, the 14th such event, was possibly the best Mela ever. The audience enjoyed the performance, dancing along to her singing.Saturday saw the Rath Yatra and pooja in the afternoon followed by cultural programs. At the evening concert by Vinod Rathod, after his dramatic entry, he sang some of his famous songs including those from the movie Munnabhai.

On Sunday, October 26, the Bay Area community turned up for a last chance to enjoy the beautiful sunny day with good food, shopping and entertainment along with performances by Alka Bhatnagar, Raj Sohal and Vinod Rathod, all rounded off by a visit to the temple.  Special Thanks, courtsey India Post
